The Vietnamese Dai dress is considered as a smart garment. Vietnamese women usually wear at important events, parties, weddings, solemn events (such as funerals or other religious ceremonies held in a pagoda). And it is interesting, the girls who go to school and university wear to or from (general students ).
AO DAI: The graceful national dress of Vietnamese women is known as the Pronounced Ow Zai in North and Ow Yai in South Vietnam. An Ao Dai consist of close-fitting blouse with long panels at the front and back that is worn over losse black or white trousers. The outfit was designed for the Vietnamese hot weather, and for that reason is much more common in the South Vietnam and especially in Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta and uniquely in Hue Vietnam
Although Ao Dai is impractical for doing stoop labor in the rice paddies, they are considered appropriate for office workers and the female students.

The famous ‘ Black Pyjamas ‘ of the VC, immortalized in numerous Hollywood movies, were not Ao Dai but actually just a common form of rural dress. You will see plenty of people in the countryside wearing ‘ pyjamas ‘ , though not always black.
From 1975 to 1985, Ao Dai were no longer politically correct. Chic baggy military uniforms were all the rage, and Ao Dai disappeared everywhere in Vietnam. Beauty contests – a symbol of bourgeois capitalism – were banned by the communists but were finally permitted again in Ho Chi Minh City in 1989. Swimsuit competitions were not permitted, but many of the girls did wear their best designer jeans. However, it was the Camau team that stole the show – they wore Ao Dai. Suddenly, there was a nationwide boom in Ao Dai production.
